mahabharatha episode - 20
Garuda said: "Purandara! May there be friendship
between us as you wish. Know that my strength is great and unbearable."Shatakratu!
Saints do not accept self-praise and self-praise. Friend! Since we are now
friends, I am saying that you asked, even though it is not good to praise oneself.
Shakra! I can carry this earth, including the mountains, the sea, the forest,
and you, on a single feather of my wing.
"I can carry all the worlds and all the moving things
in them without getting tired. Know that this is my great strength." The
Suta said: “Shaunaka! To these words of the hero, the rich, great, and crowned
hero, Lord Devendra, replied:
"Accept this constant and good companion of mine. If
the Soma is of no use to you, return it to me. Whoever you give it to will
always fight with us." Garuda said: "I am carrying this Soma for a
specific purpose. I will not give this Soma to anyone to drink."
"Sahasraksha! Tridasheshwara! Before I put this down,
you yourself kidnap it and take it away." Shakra said: “Andaja! I am
pleased with these words of yours. O celestial being! Receive from me the boon
you desire.” The Suta said: “When he was thus heard, he remembered the children
of Kadru and the slavery to which his mother had become due through their
deceit, and said: "Shakra! I am hearing you say that even though I am
capable of doing everything. May the mighty serpents be my food."
"So be it. I will kidnap you as soon as you put down
Soma!" said he and left. Immediately, Suparna hurried to his mother and,
overjoyed, said to all the snakes: "Here I have brought nectar. I am
placing it between the Kushas. O Pannagas! Take an auspicious bath and drink
this."
"I have done what you told me. As you promised, from
today on, my mother will be a maidservant." “So be it!” the snakes said
and went to bathe. Then Shakra picked up the nectar and took it back to heaven.
After completing the bath, chanting, and performing auspicious rituals, the
Somarthi serpents returned to that place, delighted.
When the snakes saw that the jars where the Soma was kept
were empty, they realized that it had been taken away by deception. Then they
started licking the jars containing the nectar, and their tongues split open.
This is why the darbhe became sacred. Then Suparna lived in that forest with
his mother, exceedingly happy. Garuda, worshipped by all the birds, pleased his
mother by devouring serpents and performing other great deeds. "Whoever
listens to this story or recites it regularly in the presence of the two great
sages, will undoubtedly attain heaven as a virtuous person, thanks to the
chanting of Garuda."
